It’s My Birthday….
Fifty years ago I came into the world & it was the day before Mother’s Day, just like this year. So, to steal an idea from Rebecca, I am going to list 50 Life Events that I am either Thankful For or Sorry For in honor of my Mom:
1. Sorry for being 2 weeks late. Haven’t been on time since.
2. Turning cartwheels in the front yard with me.
3. Sorry for running from you when you were trying to whip me.
4. Taking me to church.
5. Putting up with my screaming on the way to the doctor’s office “If you don’t cry, I will take you to the Varsity when we get done”. Never worked. You took me anyway.
6. Sorry for broken glass fawn dish.
7. All the teacher conferences that you had to sit thru “If only you would apply yourself” or “Why aren’t you more like your big brother.
8. Season passes at Glenwood hills pool. Still remember how cold that water was.
9. Laughter is the best medicine.
10. Always making Christmas time the most wonderful time of the year.
11. Not disowning me after I got kicked off Safety patrol for bad conduct grades.
12. Let me walk over a mile to the 7Eleven to get a Slurpee with my friends.
13. Report cards – Like a box of chocolates, you never knew what I was going to get!
14. Teaching me family is most important thing
15. Taking my class to roller rink for my 8th Birthday when 9 months pregnant,
16. Having me a little sister next day after 8th Birthday party.
17. Thankful you only broke your nose in that terrible wreck on Glenwood, thought you were dead.
18. Letting me do a paper route when I was 13.
19. Chocolate pound cake with fudge icing.
20. Not letting Jeff kill me.
21. Telling me to hold my stomach in – need to do more of that.
22. Explaining to a scared little girl after a bad dream that little children do go to heaven.
23. Trips out west in the back of a station wagon.
24. My too short 7th Grade Graduation dress you made me.
25. The 7th Grade Graduation dress you made for my best friend Terri.
26. Running me from practices & games.
27. Not killing yourself on that fall from the ladder.
28. Understanding after my being a bratty teenager over our argument about me wanting some new clothes. Surprising me the next day by going out & buying some. I still remember the outfits.
29. The advice you gave me on how to improve my odds of getting my license.
30. Getting drivers license on 16th Birthday & letting me drive the new car even with Jeff’s protests.
31. Sorry for breaking the axle of Volkswagen trying to close the passenger door while driving.
32. Not killing me for cutting of the hem of my long dress that you made me without asking.
33. Not saying a word when I brought home a long curly headed young man with a cute smile.
34. Divinity.
35. Wanting me to wait to get married but respecting my decision.
36. Giving me a very special Wedding day.
37. Waiting patiently for 2 days for the birth of your first grandchild.
38. Teaching me how to hang wallpaper.
39. Waiting patiently again for the birth of first grandson (and knowing to pack a bag).
40. Giving me the love of listening to the Braves play on the radio.
41. Waiting only 9 hours for the birth of next grandchild.
42. Obsessing over finding the “perfect” touch.
43. Waiting & worrying 4 days for the birth of my last child.
44. Surprise 25th wedding anniversary party.
45. Love the way you love to compete in tennis.
46. Teaching me to love my kids unconditionally.
47. Helping make Katie’s wedding a day I will never forget.
48. Teaching me friends are what make life fun.
40. Always saying I am your hero. We all know who the hero is.50. For loving my dad for over 50 years.
